Florocenos - Candida (Candida albicans, Candida grabrata, Candida krusei, Candida parapsilosis/tropicalis), quantification of DNA

Vulvovaginal candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by opportunistic microscopic yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida.

Candidiasis is not only Candidaalbicans.

Of the 186 species of fungi of the genus Candida, 5 species lead to the development of clinically pronounced vulvovaginal candidiasis:

  • C. albicans — 70-80 %

  • C. glabrata — 15-35 %

  • C. krusei — 5-27 %

  • C. parapsilosis — 1-26 %
  • C. tropicalis — 1-14 %.

For the informative diagnosis of vulvovaginal candidiasis and the decision on the initiation of antifungal therapy, it is important to determine clinically significant species of fungi of the genus Candida in a quantitative format.

Indications for the purpose of the analysis:

  • curdled discharge

  • itching/burning on the skin of the anogenital area

  • cracks on the skin and mucous membrane of the genitals
  • Dysuria, dyspareunia

  • vulvitis, vaginitis
  • planned antibacterial therapy.

Interpretation:

Up to 102 in 1 ml – the amount is not of clinical significance, carrier, treatment is not required.
