During the examination for anemia, your doctor will perform the following actions:
· Examination of your medical record.

You can help with the diagnosis by preparing for questions about your symptoms, family cases, your usual diet, medications that you take regularly, the amount of alcohol consumed and your ethnic origin. A blood test may include:
· Complete blood count that determines the number, size, volume of red blood cells and hemoglobin levels in the blood.
