Helicobacter is a genus of bacteria found in the stomach of humans and some animals. One of the most well-known and studied bacteria in this genus is Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). Helicobacter pylori is associated with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, including ulcers, gastritis and cancer. It causes heaviness and bloating after eating, bad breath, nausea, belching, burning and stomach pain. Helicobacter produces toxins that destroy stomach cells and disrupt its acid balance.
