For normal growth and development, a child needs their body to function properly. Regular laboratory tests allow hidden disorders to be detected at an early stage and prevent the development of serious diseases. Given that the immune system matures by the age of 12, health checks in childhood are particularly important.

Complete blood count with leukocyte formula and ESR (CBC + ESR)

Allows you to assess the general condition of the body, identify hidden inflammation, anaemia, infections, allergic reactions, etc.

The test includes:

  • Haemoglobin
  • Red blood cell count
  • Colour index
  • Platelet and white blood cell count
  • Leukocyte formula
  • Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)

Haemoglobin is a protein that transports oxygen from the lungs to the tissues and returns carbon dioxide back. Oxygen is necessary for cells to process nutrients and produce energy. When haemoglobin levels are low (e.g. in anaemia), the body does not get enough oxygen, which causes weakness and fatigue.

Red blood cells are red blood cells that carry oxygen. A decrease in their number may indicate accelerated cell destruction or insufficient formation in the body.

The color index shows how much hemoglobin is contained in one red blood cell. Its deviation helps to identify the cause of anemia, such as iron deficiency or impaired absorption of vitamins that affect blood formation.

Platelets are cells responsible for blood clotting. A deficiency increases the risk of bleeding, while an excess increases the risk of thrombosis. Changes in platelet levels may indicate problems with the blood formation or circulation system.

Leukocytes are protective cells that fight foreign agents such as bacteria and viruses. An increase in their level in the blood indicates an inflammatory process in the body.

Leukocyte formula is the ratio of different types of leukocytes: neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, monocytes and lymphocytes. Each type is responsible for its own function: neutrophils fight bacteria, eosinophils fight parasites and participate in immediate-type allergies, and basophils participate in delayed-type reactions.

Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) is an indicator of the rate at which red blood cells settle in a test tube. An elevated ESR indicates the presence of inflammation or other disorders in the body, ranging from colds to serious diseases, including cancer.

Manual examination of stool for protozoa and helminths

A laboratory test to detect parasitic infections in the intestines.

Manual stool examination can detect:

  • Eggs and larvae of helminths (worms), such as roundworms, pinworms, hookworms, tapeworms and others.
  • Cysts and vegetative forms of protozoa (giardia, amoeba, balantidium, etc.).
  • Fragments of parasites

Manual perianal scraping

Enterobiasis is caused by pinworms, parasites that lay eggs at night in the anal area. Infection usually occurs through unwashed hands and bed linen.

Symptoms appear after 12–15 days:

  • itching in the anal area
  • possible rashes
  • irritability
  • intestinal disorders
  • sleep disturbances

Сommon urine test

A urine test involves assessing the physical properties, chemical composition and microscopy of the sediment.

Urine colour:

Normal urine is straw-yellow due to the pigment urochrome. Deviations may be caused by food, medication or disease.

  • Red colour - may indicate blood in the urine due to kidney inflammation or trauma to the urinary tract.
  • Dark yellow - often associated with impaired bilirubin metabolism in liver and gallbladder diseases.
  • Black tint - possible in rare metabolic disorders (alcaptonuria) or tumours (melanoma).
  • Greenish-yellow - indicates pus and bacterial inflammation.
  • Dirty brown - occurs when the pH of the urine changes to alkaline.
  • Cloudy white - may be a sign of high phosphate or fat content or the presence of parasites, such as filariasis.
