Skin is not just about appearance, it is a mirror of our health. When it becomes dry, oily or covered with rashes, the body is sending a signal that something is wrong inside. This is often caused by hormonal imbalances, problems with metabolism, nutrition or immunity. If you don't pay attention in time, your skin may react more and more strongly with inflammation, flaking, premature ageing and loss of tone.

Ferritin

A protein that stores iron in the body. When iron reserves are sufficient, it is stored in the form of ferritin.

In order for the skin to maintain its elasticity, even tone and ability to regenerate, it needs a healthy metabolism and normal blood supply. Ferritin supplies tissues with iron, an element without which cellular respiration is disrupted, collagen synthesis slows down and skin renewal is impeded.

Symptoms of ferritin deficiency:

  • Skin colour may become "coffee with milk" or pale
  • Dry, cracked corners of the lips
  • Paleness of the mucous membranes
  • Slowing down of skin regeneration processes

TSH

The TSH hormone regulates the functioning of the thyroid gland and, accordingly, the condition of the skin.

With elevated TSH:

  • Skin becomes dry and rough
  • Decreased sweating
  • Slow wound healing

With decreased TSH:

  • Skin becomes thin, increased sweating

Estradiol

A sex hormone that has a direct effect on skin condition. It helps maintain elasticity and moisture. Estradiol stimulates the production of hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin.

When estradiol levels are low:

  • The skin becomes thin, dry and may flake
  • Collagen and elastin reserves decrease

Testosterone

A sex hormone responsible for the development of secondary sexual characteristics, muscle mass, bone density and metabolism.

How does testosterone affect the skin?

  • It activates androgen receptors in the sebaceous glands, leading to heightened production of sebum.
  • The most common problem in men associated with high testosterone levels is acne.

DHEA sulphate

A steroid hormone produced by the adrenal cortex, which is a precursor to sex hormones.

How does DHEA affect the skin ?

  • It improves collagen synthesis and stimulates the growth of new skin cells, thereby maintaining the elasticity and ‘youthfulness’ of the skin.
  • It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, which is important because inflammation and oxidative stress worsen the condition of the skin and accelerate its ageing.

IgE (immunoglobulin E)

IgE is a class of antibodies produced by the body in response to allergens and parasites.

How does IgE affect the skin ?

  • With elevated IgE levels, the risk of skin allergic reactions (itching, redness, rashes) increases.

Glycosylated haemoglobin

High levels have a negative effect on facial skin due to a process called glycation. Glycation makes collagen stiffer, causing the skin to lose its flexibility and elasticity.

Total protein

A fundamental component of cells and tissues. Building proteins play a special role in the skin:

  • Collagen and elastin give the skin firmness and elasticity.
  • Keratin is important for the skin, hair and nails.

Symptoms of protein deficiency:

  • Dry and pale skin
  • Decreased skin tone
  • Premature wrinkles
  • Swelling

Since the profile includes hormones, women need to have the profile done on the 3rd-7th day of their cycle.
