Antibodies to the Jo-1 component
Jo-1 is designed to quantify in vitro IgG antibodies to Jo-1 in human serum and plasma as an aid in the clinical diagnosis of polymyositis/dermatomyositis.
The determination of anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA) is of central importance for the clinical diagnosis of connective tissue diseases. Antibodies to Jo-1 can be found as markers in dermatomyositis/polymyositis (prevalence about 25%), but also in patients with polymyositis overlap syndrome. They are associated with interstitial pneumonitis (in the context of myositis) and occur in a much smaller proportion of children with myositis than in adults.
Patients with antibodies to Jo-1, as a rule, have a severe form of the disease with a tendency to relapse and a worse prognosis.
