Antibodies to neuronal transglutaminase, IgG
Antibodies to neuronal transglutaminase (tTG6) of the IgG class are autoantibodies directed against the enzyme transglutaminase, which is present in nerve tissue. Their appearance is associated with an autoimmune reaction triggered by gluten intolerance of autoimmune origin.
The determination of antibodies to tTG6 is used to diagnose gluten-associated neurological disorders, such as:
- Gluten ataxia (impaired coordination of movements)
- Peripheral neuropathy
- Cognitive disorders associated with gluten sensitivity
Unlike antibodies to tissue transglutaminase 2 (tTG2), which reflect intestinal damage in celiac disease, antibodies to tTG6 are mainly associated with damage to the nervous system.
