Ascaris, p1
The intestinal ascaris Ascaris lumbricoides is the most common human helminthic infection worldwide, usually causing nutrient depletion and obstruction due to the physical presence of worms in individuals with symptoms, as well as immune-mediated reactions to migrating larvae.
Epidemiologic analysis have variously found A. lumbricoides infection to be either a predisposing factor for allergy and asthma or actually a protective factor.
To date, four allergens have been characterized, but at least nine additional IgE-binding components in ascarid extract may be potential allergens, and cross-reactivity with a number of nematodes, arthropods and crustaceans has been demonstrated.
Determination of specific IgE in human blood to - Ascaridae, p1, shows the body's reaction to a given allergen.
Analysis method: ImmunoCAP method (Immunofluorescence in the solid phase)
Units of measurement: kU/l
Biomaterial for analysis: venous blood
