Fungus Aspergillus terreus, m36
Aspergillus terreus is a thermotolerant mycelial fungus belonging to the genus Aspergillus. However, it is a relatively rare cause of aspergillosis in humans, and has been reported as a new pathogen in Austria and Texas, USA.
An important pathogen of invasive aspergillosis, A. terreus infection is associated with increased morbidity and death rate, partly due to resistance to amphotericin B.
A. terreus is also a cause of allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis in patients with asthma and cystic fibrosis. Exposure to allergens occurs by inhalation, and three allergens specific to Aspergillus terreus are recognized. Asp t 36 has been identified as a possible major allergen and has molecular homology with a wide range of phylogenetically related and unrelated allergens.
Determination of specific IgE in human blood to - Fungus Aspergillus terreus, m36, shows the body's reaction to this allergen.
