Integrin Alpha-2 (ITGA2 (GPIA) 807 C>T)

ITGA2 gene encodes the membrane glycoprotein present on the cell membranes. It forms a complex on platelet membranes being one of the collagen receptors. Polymorphic variants are related to the collagen binding platelet receptors changes. These changes cause high risk of myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, as well as risk of thrombosis after angioplasty, stenting of coronary arteries

Potential genotypes:

• С/С – normal platelet adhesion rate

• С/Т – platelet adhesion rate is increased compared to С/С genotype

• T/T – platelet adhesion rate is increased compared to С/С & С/Т genotype
