Wasp spotted, i2

The spotted wasp belongs to the genus Dolichovespula. Spotted wasps are among the most common causes of severe immediate allergic reactions, along with honey bees, paper wasps, hornets, stinging ants and bumblebees.

IgE-mediated reactions often manifest as extensive local reactions with swelling spreading from the sting site. Sometimes they include anaphylactic reactions with general symptoms such as urticaria, hyperemia, and angioedema, as well as more serious respiratory and cardiovascular symptoms. Reactions can be fatal. Reactions may be either immediate or/and delayed type.

The determination of specific IgE in human blood to Spotted Wasp, i2, shows the body's reaction to the allergen in question.
