Package "Detection of STIs in the Rectum by PCR"

A comprehensive PCR assay designed to detect the pathogens responsible for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in specimens collected from the rectum.

The test detects the DNA of microorganisms capable of causing inflammatory diseases of the anorectal region and persisting on the mucosal surface even in the absence of pronounced clinical symptoms.

The panel includes:

  • Chlamydia trachomatis;
  • Neisseria gonorrhoeae;
  • Trichomonas vaginalis;
  • Mycoplasma genitalium.

PCR provides high sensitivity and specificity, enabling detection of infection at an early stage as well as in asymptomatic carriers.

Clinical Significance

Rectal infections caused by STI pathogens may be asymptomatic or present with signs of inflammation of the rectal mucosa.

Failure to diagnose these infections in a timely manner may lead to persistent chronic infection and continued transmission. PCR testing allows identification of the causative pathogen, determination of the cause of inflammation, and selection of appropriate treatment.
