Parrots are a group of colorful species of tropical birds that are popular as pets.
Exposure to parrot feathers has been found to be associated with bird's egg syndrome, asthma, allergic rhinitis, rhinoconjunctivitis, and hypersensitive pneumonitis. Analysis with parrot feather extract has shown the presence of several allergenic protein bands.
Cross-reactivity has been found between serum and feathers of birds including parrots, canary, goose, chicken, duck, and pigeon. In addition, budgie feather extract (containing albumin) has been reported to cross-react with egg yolk extract (containing Gal d).
