Prothrombin (coagulation factor II) (F II c.*96 G>A)

Coagulation factor II, thrombin precursor is present in the blood plasma in inactive form, it is an essential component of the blood clotting system. Its changes in plasma increase the risk of thrombosis. Determination of polymorphisms has prognostic significance when hormone replacement therapy is  prescribed and oral contraceptives  are taken.

Potential genotypes:

• G/G – genotype that does not predispose the increased blood clotting

• G/A – genotype predisposing increased blood clotting, in a heterozygous form

• A/A – genotype predisposing increased blood clotting, in homozygous form
