Sunflower is a crop grown all over the world, and sunflower seed products are used to produce oil for human consumption, as well as as animal feed.
Allergy to sunflower seeds is considered rare and is usually limited to individual case reports. Cases have been associated with occupational inhalation exposure, and anaphylaxis has been reported after ingestion of the allergen.
Cross-reactivity with a variety of pollen, tree nuts and seeds is described.
