Consequences of tanning
The summer vacation season has begun, and the girls returning from vacation are in a hurry to show off their tan — the main souvenir from the South.
The rest of the fair sex often make up for lost time by visiting tanning salons in local beauty salons, which vied with each other to offer their services at the most affordable prices, and someone gets a home solarium for these purposes. Both of them, in pursuit of fashionable skin color, risk causing serious harm to the body. But it's no secret that many ladies are used to being guided by the slogan: "Beauty requires sacrifice!". How great can these sacrifices be? Not everyone thinks about this. And it would be necessary to remember, especially white blondes, what danger carries excessive ultraviolet, what undesirable side effects for any fan of tanning can turn out to be its effect on the problem areas of the skin - and this is any part of the body open to the sun, which has birthmarks (nevus). "The larger the mole, the stronger its influence on fate," those who undertake to predict a person's future and determine the characteristics of his character, depending on the location of the mole, suggest believing this. The influence, of course, can be very serious, and the old romantic fortune-telling has nothing to do with it. It's all the fault of the same ultraviolet rays, from the excess of which the mole imperceptibly begins to increase in size, turning into one of the most aggressive malignant tumors melanoma (the name is due to the fact that this neoplasm develops from pigment cells of melanocytes producing melanins). In recent years, there has been an increase in the incidence of melanoma in young people and even in children. Most often, this malignant tumor affects the area of the lower extremities and much less often — the head and neck, and sometimes the retina of the eye. In men, one in three melanomas occurs on the back. Alarming symptoms of malignant degeneration of a mole are: asymmetry (when one half does not match the other), uneven borders, heterogeneous color, diameter over 6 millimeters, changes in size, shape or color, as well as the appearance of new formations on the skin. Most often, a "reborn" mole is characterized by dark pigmentation, a shiny surface and a tendency to decay. It can get wet, bleed and cause a burning sensation. Having discovered such signs of the disease, it is necessary to urgently seek medical help — and not to a beauty salon, but to an oncodermatologist. After all, melanoma grows rapidly, and in three directions at once: above the skin, along its surface and deep into it, giving metastases. Unfortunately, when the obvious signs of this disease are already clearly visible, the prognosis for its treatment may be unfavorable. After all, precious time has been lost! Therefore, at the first suspicion of dangerous changes occurring with a mole or when new birthmarks appear under the influence of ultraviolet rays, blood should be diagnosed with the S100 oncomarker, a protein that is the only sensitive serological marker of melanoma. Only this exclusive test makes it possible to identify the disease at the earliest stages and begin its effective treatment or, conversely, get rid of anxious thoughts if the alleged diagnosis is not confirmed.
We remind you that the examination for the melanoma oncomarker S100 can be done in any laboratory of the OLYMP CDL branches.
