Myoglobin analysis - a marker of muscle and myocardial damage
Myoglobin is a marker of damage to skeletal muscles and myocardium (heart muscle), determined in various pathological conditions
⠀
Elevated myoglobin levels help doctors make a diagnosis of the following diseases:
- inflammatory muscle diseases (myositis, dermatomyositis, polymyositis);
- hereditary diseases characterized by degeneration of skeletal muscles (Duchenne muscular dystrophy, Landouzy-Dejerine myopathy, etc.);
- autoimmune diseases (myasthenia gravis);
- rheumatoid arthritis.
When significant amounts enter the bloodstream, myoglobin can damage the kidneys, causing acute kidney failure
⠀
This is why a myoglobin test is necessary for people with serious clinical conditions to determine the likelihood of kidney damage:⠀
- polytrauma;
- convulsions of various etiologies;
- deep thermal and chemical burns;
- long-term compression syndrome (crash syndrome);
- abuse of amphetamines and alcohol.
In the laboratories of "KDL OLIMP" you can take the test "Determination of myoglobin in blood serum by immunochemiluminescence"
