СDL OLYMP: “Every fifth patient has high blood sugar levels”

The OLYMP Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory analyzed the results of examinations of more than 65,000 patients for blood glucose levels.

Since the beginning of February, more than 65,000 people have been examined for blood glucose levels at CDL OLYMP. Of these, men - 33% (21,728 people), women - 67% (43,285 people). According to the research results, every 5th patient or 20% (13,267 people) had glucose levels above normal, without significant differences in the regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, said Erlan Suleimenov, General Director of CDL OLYMP LLP.

According to the head of the laboratory, hyperglycemia was more common in men than in women. Among men, high sugar was diagnosed in 25%, among women - in 18%.

- In older age groups, a natural increase in the proportion of patients with hyperglycemia is visible. For example, among patients 40-45 years old, high sugar was found in 19%, and among those 55-60 years old - already in 34%, noted Erlan Suleimenov.

As for children, glucose above normal was most often recorded in patients of primary and secondary school age (7-14 years). In this age group, 8% of children had sugar levels above the norm. Such indicators may indicate both the abuse of carbohydrates by children and weak control on the part of parents when preparing children for the test.

A persistent increase in blood sugar is called diabetes. The most common type 2 diabetes is type 2 diabetes, in which the body loses sensitivity to insulin. The disease has become a non-infectious epidemic. People at risk for its occurrence are people with overweight and obesity. 90% of all patients with type 2 diabetes are overweight. Therefore, overweight patients, including children, need to regularly check their blood sugar levels.

The insidiousness of type 2 diabetes is that symptoms of the disease may be absent for several years. However, even a slight increase in sugar over a long period of time can cause serious damage to health: it causes complications on the retina, kidney damage, damage to the function of nerve fibers, and cardiovascular diseases.

Any increase in blood sugar requires consulting a doctor.

Available tests for diagnosing sugar in the body in the CDL OLYMP network:

Blood glucose - a skinning method for diagnosing blood sugar, allows you to identify a risk group for further examination from the general public.

Glucose in urine - for the diagnosis of pathologies such as: renal failure, tubulopathy, diabetes mellitus, chronic alcohol poisoning, gestational diabetes mellitus in pregnant women, Cushing's disease and syndrome.

The “Diabetes Mellitus Diagnosis” profile is intended to identify diabetes mellitus and monitor the course of the disease.

Includes 6 tests (blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin, insulin, urine glucose, general urine test, HOMA-IR index) for reliable diagnosis.

These analyzes are available in all treatment rooms of the CDL OLYMP network throughout Kazakhstan.
