OLYMP CDL has introduced a new analysis – parotitis
In most cases, parotitis is also known as "mumps". Parotitis (mumps) is a systemic highly contagious viral infection, usually occurring with inflammation of the parotid salivary glands. However, the danger lies in the fact that parotitis affects not only the salivary glands, but also all the glands of the body: thyroid, pancreas, ovaries and testicles.
Infection occurs by airborne droplets, and a household route is also possible (through toys, dishes, etc.).
The main symptoms of Parotitis are:
malaise, muscle pain, weakness;
temperature rise to 38-40 degrees;
swelling and soreness of the parotid salivary glands.
Complications of Parotitis:
Damage to the nervous system – encephalitis and meningitis;
Damage to the organ of hearing (sometimes leads to complete deafness);
Orchitis is dangerous especially for men. Inflammation of the testicles (orchitis) can lead to atrophy of this reproductive organ and, as a result, infertility;
Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas. Pancreatitis is observed in almost every twentieth person who has had parotitis. However, pancreatitis itself is not as terrible as the likelihood of developing diabetes mellitus.
In the OLYMP CDL, two types of parotitis analysis are made: determination of IgM class antibodies to detect the current disease, and IgG class antibodies to determine the presence of immunity to parotitis, which is necessary to make a decision on the expediency of repeated vaccination and isolation of the subject from the disease focus.
Attention! You can be examined for suspected parotitis and for active immunity to mumps in any treatment room of the OLYMP CDL branches. Details are available on the website in the section "Tests and prices".
