In Astana and Qaragandy, a new coagulological test D-dimer has been introduced in the OLYMP CDL branches

D-dimer is a product of fibrin breakdown. D-dimer is a marker of thrombus formation and fibrinolysis (dissolution of intravascular thrombus and extravascular fibrin deposits).

With the help of the D-dimer test in the blood, the doctor can assess how the process of fibrin formation and breakdown – thrombosis and fibrinolysis – goes. D-dimer test is important in coagulogram analysis because D-dimer is formed in the blood only when both processes occur.

The analysis of this coagulation index is used in the diagnosis of thrombotic conditions, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, DIC syndrome and pregnancy complications.

After the age of 80, D-dimer levels begin to rise.

During pregnancy, the D-dimer in the blood gradually increases, 3-4 times higher than normal by the end of the term. Even higher values of D-dimer in the blood mean complications of pregnancy - gestosis, pre-eclampsia and are observed in pregnant women, patients with diabetes, kidney disease.

An elevated D-dimer is characteristic of massive tissue lesions, extensive hematomas, increases due to surgical interventions and can be a sign of serious diseases:

  • Deep vein thrombosis
  • DIC syndrome
  • Pulmonary thromboembolism
  • infectious diseases, sepsis
  • Cancer
  • Liver Disease
  • coronary artery disease, heart failure, myocardial infarction.
