Apricot is a variety of Prunus, belonging to the plum in the subgenus Prunus. Most likely, it originated in northern and western China and Central Asia. It currently thrives in most temperate regions and ranks fifth in the world in the production of deciduous fruits.
  Apricot can cause allergic reactions ranging from mild symptoms such as oral allergy syndrome to severe systemic reactions such as anaphylaxis. 
  Sulfur dioxide and other sulfite preservatives used to preserve dried apricots can cause respiratory and other adverse reactions.
  The major allergen Pru ar 1 of apricot, along with the major allergens of apple (Mal d1), pear (Pyr c 1) and sweet cherry (Pru av 1), is a structural homologue of the major allergen of birch pollen Bet v 1, and may lead to cross-reaction with these and other plants and products containing this panallergen.
