Sampling of material for microbiological examination (cotton swab without medium)
Microbiological tests allow you to confirm or deny presence of infectious agents in the body with a high degree of accuracy and reliability. Also such test is an effective way to identify the level of sensitivity of isolated microorganisms to antibiotics. The material for the tests are swabs from mucous membranes.
In order to ensure the reliability of the obtained results, microbiological methods of research give importance to the issues of correct and timely collection of material for analysis. Cotton swab without medium is used if the biomaterial taken for the analysis does not require transportation, that is, it is taken directly at the laboratory where the analysis will be conducted.
Preparation for microbiologic examination (bacteriologic cultures):
Exclude antimicrobials medications before biomaterial sampling, if they are not given for vital indications.
Morning medications, manipulations involving the use of antibiotics and antiseptics are performed only after biomaterial sampling.
It is not recommended to perform a microbiological analysis if a course of treatment with antibiotics is carried out. It is advisable to perform the examination before the course or after the expiration of 4 weeks after the last drug administration, unless otherwise recommended by your attending physician.
