8 reasons to get tested for chlamydia infection
Until recently, it was believed that inflammatory diseases of the eye, joints and genitals were unrelated. In addition, it was wrongly believed that infertility in a couple was mainly the woman's fault. However, the study of one microorganism has forced doctors to change their opinion on these issues. The disease in question is CHLAMYDIA INFECTION, a sexually transmitted disease. This article lists the main reasons that make every person who values their health and the health of their loved ones, exclude the diagnosis of Chlamydia infection, or identify it and begin treatment before the development of irreversible complications.
The 1st reason - HIGH CONTAHIOUSNESS, i.e. transmission as a result of even brief sexual intercourse without using a condom. According to unofficial data, about 20 per cent of men start using a condom after sexual intercourse has begun.
The 2nd reason is the lack of symptoms. Due to the fact that the infection very often runs without characteristic symptoms, about 70% of women and more than 50% of men do not know about their disease. Unfortunately, they learn about it only when complications occur.
The 3rd reason - WIDE DIVERSITY. To date, Chlamydia infection affects about 8% of the adult population of the world (about 600 million). According to the World Health Organisation, about 90 million people fall ill with Chlamydia infection every year in the world.
Statistics show that the risk of getting chlamydia infection is 2.5 times greater than gonorrhoea and 8 times greater than syphilis.
The 4th reason is HIGH PATHOGENICITY, i.e. the damage the microbe does to the body, affecting various organs (not only the genitourinary tract). Chlamydia is the cause of such diseases as: Reiter's disease (inflammation of the urethra, joints, mainly knee joints, and conjunctiva); urethral stricture (narrowing of the urethra, the only method of treatment is surgical intervention); orchoepidididymitis (inflammation of the testis and appendage); prostatitis; in women it is the cause of pelvic inflammation (endometritis, salpingitis, salpingo-ophoritis).
The 5th reason - HIGH PROBABILITY OF THE CAUSE OF INFERTILITY. In the structure of infertility, chlamydia occupies a leading place. In half of women who suffer from infertility, the cause is chlamydia, which leads to adhesions in the reproductive organs, as a result - the egg cell can not "get" into the uterus. If a woman who has Chlamydia infection becomes pregnant, in every second case there is a miscarriage, mostly before 12 weeks of pregnancy. In men, in addition to adhesions, there is direct damage to sperm, which become "inactive" and unable to fertilise the egg cell.
The 6th reason - BIG THREAT TO PREGNANCY. Pregnant women may have the following complications: spontaneous miscarriage; unintended pregnancy; premature labour; fever in labour; early and late toxicosis of pregnant women; polyuria, which affects not only the baby but also the mother; placental abnormalities; placental abruption; placental detachment; intrauterine hypoxia of the fetus.
The 7th reason - HIGH PROBABILITY OF TRANSMISSION TO CHILDREN. Women with chlamydia infection transmit the disease to their newborns in half of the cases, who subsequently develop Chlamydia infection, which can be complicated by generalisation of the process with heart, liver, lung and gastrointestinal tract damage.
The 8th reason - HIGH RESISTANCE TO TREATMENT. This is usually due to self-medication, leading to the development of drug resistance. In addition, chlamydia are able to change their structure and transform into the L-form, which can be compared to a long sleep inside the cells of the body, where antibiotics can penetrate with great difficulty. Then, when the danger of death is gone, they reassume their original form again.
Thus, if the following symptoms occur:
A woman:
-
discomfort in the lower abdomen;
-
frequent, painful urges to urinate;
-
burning sensation and pain during urination;
-
burning and itching in the vaginal area;
-
discharge (white, green, mucous; frothy; with or without unpleasant odour) from the vagina;
-
bloody discharge from the vagina that does not coincide with your period;
-
unpleasant, painful sensations during sexual intercourse.
A man:
-
purulent discharge from the urethra;
-
unpleasant, painful sensations during urination;
-
itching and burning of the penis;
-
unpleasant, painful sensations during sexual intercourse;
-
erectile dysfunction.
In men and women:
-
prolonged joint pain;
-
untreated conjunctivitis (itchy, sandy eyes);
-
signs of sciatica before the age of 30 (back pain, spinal pain).
If you have at least one of the above symptoms; if a couple cannot conceive or is planning to conceive, the first thing to do is to be examined for sexually transmitted diseases, and first of all for Chlamydia infection.
ATTENTION: Chlamydia infection testing by PCR and ELISA method can be performed in any branch of OLYMP clinical diagnostic laboratories.
