Genetic determination of kinship: new services for clients of OLYMP CDL

Resident Georgia Carnell Smith paid $40,000 in child support and then discovered that he was not his biological father.

Sometimes, life situations force people to prove or disprove family ties. This question is especially relevant in determining paternity, especially when a man doubts that he is paying child support to his own child and not to someone else's child. It seems incredible, but almost every tenth man who applies for genetic expertise is not the biological father of the child being raised. One can only guess at the real scale of the problem…

Only the genetic definition of kinship can help to understand the complex problem of family ties.

Genetic determination of kinship is a comparison of the genetic code of two or more examined persons in order to identify coincidences between them and make a conclusion about the probable degree of kinship in percentage terms.

There are various types of genetic analysis:

  • Establishing paternity or motherhood
  • Determination of close kinship (between a grandson/granddaughter and a grandfather/grandmother)
  • Determination of distant kinship (between nephew/niece and uncle/aunt)
  • Sibling test (determination of kinship between siblings)
  • Test for infidelity (determination of "alien" DNA in the biomaterial, different from the samples of the spouses)

The studied biomaterial, as a rule, is a painless buccal swab, that is, scraping from the mucous surface of the cheek.

The reliability of the result is 99.99%, which makes it indisputable.

In 2015, a partnership was established between the OLYMP CDL branches and one of the leading Russian genetic laboratories, Center for Molecular Genetic Examinations LLC. Now such technological analysis does not require trips to metropolises: it is enough to contact any of the 180 treatment rooms of the OLYMP CDL on the territory of the whole of Kazakhstan.
